12 Sep - First Fruits Ceremony
Despite inclement weather the ancient tradition of First Fruits to celebrate the harvest was successfully held in The Town Hall.
Mr Metcalfe junior brought some corn which was recommended by Mr Meynell as a goodly sample. It was lovely to see Mr Metcalfe senior in attendance. Previously he had carried out the tradition for about seventeen years.
In Richmond we have over one hundred and twenty allotments at
Westfields, Reeth Rd, Coronation Place, Robinson and Castle Hill. We are very grateful to the Allotments Committee and especially the reps for their work throughout the year.
The large number of people in attendance gave huge rounds of applause and cheers to the winners of cups, shields and certificates. Congratulations to all!
There was similar enthusiasm for the Garden Competition Winners. The entries were the largest for some years. Some had never entered before. This all made the judges decisions more difficult. Thank you once again for your time and experience in making the decisions.
