6 March - Mayor of Darlington's Song Contest

This evening as Mayor of Richmond,  I had the honour of representing our town at the Annual (10th) Mayor at the Darlington Mayor’s Song Contest, held at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington. With 17 primary schools competing in this wonderful annual event, it was a real joy to listen to each and every performance. The children worked incredibly hard and it truly showed on stage. Their enthusiasm, confidence and talent made for a fantastic evening.

A huge amount of credit must also go to the parents and teachers who give up their time to support the children, as well as helping with the incredible costumes. This year’s Disney theme certainly brought plenty of colour, creativity and magic to the stage.A sincere thank you to Councillor Sonia Kane, Mayor of Darlington, for hosting such a special evening. Thanks also to Mr Peter Barron MBE for being such an excellent compère, he really does make the evening extra special and to the judges who had the very difficult task of choosing 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Finally, congratulations to Whinfield Primary School for their phenomenal performance of Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid, which deservedly took first place.

Well done to everyone involved a brilliant celebration of talent and community. Thank you

Cllr C Tate

Mayor of Richmond
