8 March - Mayor of Northallerton
On Sunday morning I had the pleasure of meeting with the Mayor of Northallerton, Councillor Andrew Hugill, at the beautiful Kiplin Hall. We met as part of Richmond’s exciting bid to become UK Town of Culture 2028, and myself at the team were delighted to receive Northallerton Town Council’s formal letter of support for our application. Northallerton carefully considered submitting their own bid, but instead made the generous and strategic decision to support Richmond’s application, recognising the opportunity this presents for the whole of North Yorkshire. Their willingness to collaborate and help deliver elements of the programme including the potential use of fantastic venues such as The Forum shows the strength of partnership across our region. This bid is not just about Richmond. It is about celebrating and showcasing the rich culture, heritage and creativity that exists across North Yorkshire, and working together to bring lasting benefits to our communities. My thanks to Councillor Hugill and Northallerton Town Council for their support. Partnerships like this will help us build a strong, united bid.
