Community Engagement Dinner - 23 October 25

Last week, the Mayoress and I had the great honour of attending a Community Engagement Dinner hosted by Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Anderson, Commander Headquarters Catterick Garrison. The event was held in the distinguished surroundings of the Alamein Officers’ Mess in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

We were warmly welcomed by the stirring sound of a lone piper, setting a truly memorable tone for the evening. The dinner that followed was exceptional, prepared to the highest standard by the talented Army chefs, and accompanied by the exquisite music of a harpist whose performance provided an elegant backdrop throughout the night.

The occasion was a wonderful reflection of the spirit of collaboration, service, and dedication that characterises our local community. It brought together representatives from across the military and civilian spheres, all of whom play such vital roles in enriching life in Richmond and the wider district.

A particularly poignant moment of the evening was the farewell tribute to Major (Ret’d) Neil Bulmer, who has concluded an extraordinary 43 years of distinguished service in the British Army. His exemplary career, marked by numerous tours and unwavering commitment, stands as a testament to professionalism, courage, and leadership of the highest order. We extend to Major Bulmer our heartfelt gratitude and very best wishes for the future.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mrs Tracey Clark, PA to Commander Catterick Garrison, for her exceptional organisation of the evening, and to Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Anderson and Garrison Sergeant Major WO1 Tim Stead for their kind hospitality and for ensuring that all guests were so warmly received and superbly cared for.

The evening truly exemplified the strength of the partnership between our armed forces and the wider community — a bond that remains one of Richmond’s greatest sources of pride.
