Mayor's Audit Money
What a fantastic morning handing out the Coins to the residents of Richmond. “The Mayor’s Audit Money dates back to a 1576 charter from Queen Elizabeth I, when she ordered that money collected from the town’s rents be given back each Christmas to help local people. The tradition has continued ever since now, every resident over 60 in Richmond can receive a commemorative ‘Richmond Shilling’ coin from the Mayor, keeping a centuries-old local custom alive.”
