Last night, Richmond shone brighter than ever at the Mayor’s Civic Carol Service, held in the magnificent St Mary’s Church. The church has never been so full, a true testament to the spirit and heart of our beautiful town.
We were guided through the evening by the incredible Leyburn Brass Band, as always, they were nothing short of phenomenal. Without them there simply wouldn’t be a service like this, so heartfelt thanks to all in the band and all involved setting the evening up. Some of them may grace the stage of the Albert Hall, but I’m convinced Richmond must surely be up there with the very best.
The performances from our schools were outstanding and filled the church with joy.

Richmond Methodist School - It Was a Starry Night and Where are you at Christmas.

Trinity Academy – Do You Hear What I Hear and Have a lovely Christmas

St Mary’s RC School – Winter Carol.

Saint Francis Xavier School Worship band and choir – Silent Night.

Richmond School Senior Quartet – I’ll Be Home for Christmas.

Senior Brass Trio – Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
A particular highlight for both myself and the Mayoress was enchanting Snow Waltz: Schneewalzer. A good little work out to finish!
To all the children, thank you. Your brilliant singing lit up the night And to the teachers your time, energy, and dedication were evident in every note.
My thanks go to Rev’d Canon Martin Fletcher and his amazing team at St Mary’s Church, whose hard work makes this cherished event possible.
And finally, to all the mums, dads, grandmas, grandads, aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters who came to support the children and to the whole Richmond community thank you. What a town. What a community.
From myself the Mayoress and all here at Richmond Town Council………. we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a peaceful, joyful, and happy New Year.
