11 Oct - Richmond Castle 10K

Over 500 runners, the maximum allowed took part in the Richmond Castle 10K run, including my son Phil.

On arrival we were warmly greeted by Helen, the events organiser and given our instructions. I was also able to find out how her father is, having known him for many years.

We had a chance to chat with Amy and Janine from the Army Benevolent Fund who had been chosen by the race organisers as the charity for this year’s event. What a tremendous job this charity does.

A few words from Helen followed with a particular thank you to Tracy our Town Crier who had been keeping social media informed on her training schedule and also information about the race.

You could feel the sense of anticipation as 11am drew nearer from the participants, along with families and friends.

3-2-1 and the competitors were off; along the Batts, over Green Bridge and up Holly Hill.

Amazingly only about 34 minutes later the first two runners appeared.  Others soon arrived, with the first woman home in an incredible 41 minutes. All to loud cheers and applause.

Congratulations to all who took part. There will be some aching bodies tomorrow having taken part of the toughest 10k in the country!

None of this would have happened without the expert organisation and the sixty plus Marshalls spread around the course.

Yes, Tracy did finish! Will she carry on training and like so many of all ages be seen running in and around town?  I wish them all the very best.
