31 Aug - Richmond Duck Club Sports

August Bank Holiday Monday in Richmond for many means The Duck Club Sports Day.

It is first mentioned in or around 1902. Have you got memories of taking part?

Tradition dies hard in Richmond. Most races still take place over 90 yards.

There was already a large crowd of adults and young people when we arrived. Many taking part at the various stalls.

We were warmly greeted by the President/ Chairman Mark Baker who presented Niki, the Mayoress with a lovely bouquet of flowers. Thank you!

The 34 races were all competitive, but friendly. Nobody gave up and all did their best. Congratulations to one and all.

During the afternoon it was a pleasure to meet so many people. One in particular, Jeff Edmondson, who has been a Duck Club Member for over fifty years. Jeff is also still involved in other aspects of Richmond life. The town would be a lot poorer without his years of contribution.

Please support all the Duck Club events that happen throughout the year. To all the members, giving up your time and efforts in everything you do and accomplish is recognised and appreciated.

Cllr C. World
Mayor of Richmond
