🏆 The Royal Lancers Peto Cup & Inter-Squadron sports Babington Shield Competition
I was pleased to attend the Royal Lancers Peto Cup, one of the most anticipated events in the regiment’s calendar and a true showcase of teamwork, determination, and regimental pride.
🥊 Boxing Night is the main attraction, with Lancers from each squadron stepping into the ring to earn crucial points for their team. Every bout counts, and the atmosphere was electric as squadrons cheered their fighters on.
🏅 But it’s not just about boxing, the Peto Cup celebrates all-round athleticism, with points earned across other sports, including netball, golf and other squadron competitions. Every win edges a squadron closer to lifting the coveted Peto Cup Shield.
🎯 Its more than just a competition, the Babington Shield is about esprit de corps – building camaraderie, showcasing individual talent, and strengthening the bonds that define the regiment.
I was particularly grateful to Maj Craig Borthwick and Capt Si Gregson-Trounce, whose warm welcome and attentiveness, together with that of RSM Ryan Smith, made me feel entirely at home throughout the evening. Their professionalism and generosity were deeply appreciated.
It was also a real pleasure to meet BG Gen J Beddall (US Army), and I very much hope that this marks another step in strengthening the valued relationship between Richmond Town Council and the Garrison. The long-standing bonds of friendship between our town and the military community are something we hold dear, and I am keen to see these ties continue to flourish.
Thank you once again to the Lt Col Robin Davies, the RSM Ryan Smith and all those involved in organising the event, for their outstanding hospitality and for making the evening such a memorable occasion.
