The Infantry Training Centre Beating Retreat
Thursday 25 September 2025, Helles Barracks, Catterick Garrison
This evening, the Mayoress, Sherrie, and I had the deeply honourable privilege of attending the Infantry Training Centre Beating Retreat at Helles Barracks, Catterick Garrison. We were welcomed by the Commanding Officer of ITC Catterick, and joined by the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Brigadier David Madden DL, together with a distinguished ensemble of military bands.
The programme of the evening was magnificent. Performances by the Royal Corps of Army Music, The Catterick Band, the Massed Corps of Drums of the Irish Guards, The Royal Anglian Regiment, the Army School of Ceremonial Drums Wing, and the Pipes & Drums of No. 12 Company Irish Guards captivated all in attendance. The precision, musicality, and dignity displayed were truly outstanding.
Our sincere thanks go to the Army for its warm hospitality, which ensured the evening ran smoothly and memorably. Events of this calibre not only reflect the highest standards of military ceremony, but also provide an opportunity to reaffirm and deepen the bonds between ITC Catterick, the broader Catterick Garrison community, and Richmond Town Council.
Richmond and ITC Catterick share a proud geographical and historical association. Many servicemen and women live locally, and the presence of Catterick Garrison is a vital thread within our local community fabric. It is in occasions such as tonight’s that those links are celebrated, strengthened and honoured.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all those who contributed to the success of the evening — performers, organisers and serving personnel alike. It was a marvellous night, and one of which we in Richmond can be very proud.
Cllr Carl Tate
Mayor of Richmond.
