The Duck Club Grand Duck Race 2026!
As the Mayor and Mayoress we had the honour of starting off the 2026 Duck Race in Richmond!
What a fantastic sight it is to see so many of you gathered in beautiful Richmond for one of our most loved traditions.
The Grand Duck Race, organised by the incredible Richmond Duck Club, has become a highlight of our May Day celebrations, bringing together families, friends, and our whole community for a day of fun and fundraising.
For over a century, the Duck Club has been supporting young people in Richmond and the surrounding villages, and today’s race plays a vital role in that work.
We sent 2,800 Ducks from the Green Bridge into the River Swale, quite possibly the slowest race you’ll ever see… on one of the fastest flowing rivers in the country!
As they made their way downstream, over the famous falls and towards the finish, every single duck represents the generosity and spirit of this community, helping to support children and young people right here in Richmond.
As mayor I asked if anyone knew why ducks had tail feathers……….. To cover their Butt Quacks obviously!!!!
Thank you to the Richmond Duck Club, all the volunteers, and everyone who has taken part.
Cllr C Tate
Mayor of Richmond
